A coffee table book highlighting the achievements and initiatives of Maharashtra's Transport Department and MSRTC was released by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a Cabinet meeting held at Mantralaya on Tuesday.
The book, based on the work report of Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik, showcases efforts to modernise and strengthen the state's transport system, making it more efficient, technology-driven and citizen-friendly.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, MP Sunetra Pawar and other members of the state cabinet were present at the release ceremony.
The publication offers a detailed account of key reforms and development initiatives undertaken by the Transport Department and MSRTC in recent years.
It highlights measures to improve the performance of the state-run âLalpari' bus service, including revenue enhancement, fuel efficiency initiatives, introduction of e-buses, technological upgrades, employee welfare schemes, and improved passenger services.
It also documents reforms aimed at increasing digital transparency in driving licence and vehicle registration processes, setting up automated vehicle inspection centres, road safety awareness campaigns, stricter enforcement of traffic rules, and other citizen-focused improvements.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the government remains committed to providing safe, convenient and reliable transport services to citizens. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also appreciated the efforts of MSRTC and the Transport Department in prioritising public service delivery.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said the report is not just a compilation of schemes and statistics but a reflection of public trust, employee dedication and the journey towards a modern transport system in Maharashtra. He reiterated the department's commitment to the motto: "Safe travel⦠progressive Maharashtra."
Maharashtra Transport Minister and Chairman of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Pratap Sarnaik, has appealed to commercial passenger transport drivers from non-Marathi-speaking backgrounds to learn and use basic Marathi while interacting with passengers across the state.
In an open letter addressed to editors of Marathi newspapers and television news channels, Sarnaik sought media support for a campaign aimed at encouraging the use of Marathi in everyday public interactions, particularly within the passenger transport sector.
According to Sarnaik, drivers engaged in commercial passenger transport services in Maharashtra should possess a working knowledge of Marathi to facilitate communication with local passengers. He stated that greater use of the language in day-to-day interactions could help strengthen communication and improve passenger experiences.
The minister noted that Maharashtra's linguistic heritage forms an important part of the state's cultural identity. He said efforts to preserve and promote Marathi should involve participation from various sections of society, including those working in public-facing professions.
