Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday reviewed several key infrastructure projects in Palghar district, saying they would significantly boost the region's development while strengthening the state's transport, logistics and economic ecosystem.

During his visit, CM Fadnavis inspected the proposed Vadhvan Port, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, the proposed Vadhvan International Airport, the Naringi Creek Bridge, and the Uttan-Virar Sea Bridge. He also issued directions to senior officials for the timely execution of the projects.

CM reviews Vadhvan Port project

At Chinchani beach, Fadnavis reviewed the proposed Vadhvan Port project and assessed progress on internal road connectivity, forest clearances, power supply, railway connectivity, land acquisition, water supply, skill development, and compensation for fishermen.

The proposed greenfield port, estimated to cost around Rs 76,220 crore, will be developed over 1,448 hectares and is expected to be completed within 60 months. Once operational, it is expected to be among India's largest deep-sea ports with the capacity to handle next-generation cargo vessels.

Bullet train, airport projects reviewed

CM Fadnavis also inspected the under-construction Boisar station of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project and reviewed its progress. He discussed the pace and quality of work with officials and stressed the need to complete the project within the stipulated timeline.

Further, he visited the site proposed for the Vadhvan International Airport.

According to officials, the airport will be strategically connected to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, the Uttan-Virar Sea Link, the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway. The project is expected to improve cargo movement from the Vadhvan and Murbe ports while also helping ease passenger traffic at Mumbai airport.

Naringi Creek Bridge, Uttan-Virar Sea Bridge discussed

CM Fadnavis reviewed the progress of the Naringi Creek Bridge being constructed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The 4.10-km-long and 12-metre-wide bridge, estimated to cost around Rs 850 crore, is expected to provide direct connectivity between Vasai-Virar and the cities of Safale, Palghar and Boisar. The project is expected to reduce travel distance by around 40 km and cut travel time by approximately 45 minutes.

Fadnavis also reviewed the proposed Uttan-Virar Sea Bridge project.

Estimated to cost around Rs 58,754.51 crore, the six-lane sea bridge will include four-lane approach roads and emergency lanes on both sides. The project will have direct connectivity to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway, enabling faster, safer, and more efficient travel between South Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Several senior ministers, elected representatives, and officials were present during the visit, including Forest Minister and Palghar Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Hemant Savara, legislator Rajendra Gavit, and senior officials from the state government, Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), MMRDA, police, and district administration.

According to the state government, the proposed infrastructure projects are expected to be game changers for Palghar district, boosting ports, transport, industries, exports, and employment while contributing to Maharashtra's long-term economic growth.
