Mumbai: 11 rescued from smoke-filled commercial building in Kandivali, no injuries reported

A fire broke out at a commercial building on Kandivali Station Road near Abhirai Hotel in Kandivali West, Mumbai, during the early hours of Monday, August 17. As per the officials, the incident was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) Control at around 4:14 am.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire was classified as a Level-I fire and was confined to electrical wiring and installations, wooden furniture, tarpaulin, bamboo, and plastic materials at an adjacent temporary fruit stall.

Officials, while briefing about the situation, also highlighted that the blaze also spread to clothes, wooden furniture, and a false ceiling over an area of approximately 50 square feet on the fourth floor of Tirupati Banquet. Moreover, aluminum and plastic decorative sheets on the exterior side of the building were also affected.

No injuries reported

The incident occurred in a commercial building comprising a basement, ground floor, and four upper floors. The entire building was reported to have become smoke-logged. However, no injuries have been reported so far.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by 6:07 am. During the operation, firemen safely rescued 11 people through the staircase from a lodging house located on the second floor.

While the investigation is underway, the cause of the fire was not immediately available.

Seven suffer suffocation after fire breaks out at 7-storey building in Bandra

In a separate incident, seven people suffered from suffocation after a fire broke out at a seven-storey building in Mumbai's Bandra West on Saturday, August 15, officials said.

The fire was reported at M K Chamber, B Wing, on Station Road, Bandra West, at around 10.23 am.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire broke out in the ground-plus-seven-storey building.

Firefighters responded to the incident and managed to extinguish the blaze by 10.49 am. A

ccording to information received from the Assistant Medical Officer at Bandra Bhabha Hospital, seven people were reported to have suffered suffocation following the fire.

Those affected were identified as Gajala Javed Shaikh, 47, Javed Dildar Shaikh, 48, Tahera Ismail Shaikh, 28, Mohimuddin Javed Shaikh, 8, Ismail Akhinuddin Shaikh, 38, Mariha Javed Shaikh, 12 and Mehnoor Javed Shaikh, 20.

All seven were reported to be stable and were receiving treatment on an outpatient basis, officials said.
