BEST Committee Chairperson Trishna Vishwasrao, following discussions with the BEST administration, facilitated immediate financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh from EV Trans Pvt Ltd to the family of a 22-year-old man who was seriously injured in the BEST bus accident near Plaza Cinema in Dadar West, Mumbai, on Monday.
The aid was handed over to the mother of Vrishabh Gupta at Mumbai's Sion Hospital. BEST Committee members Ramakant Gupta and Chandrakant Machigar were present, along with Assistant General Manager (Transport) Ramesh Madavi.
The officials met the family, consoled them, and assured full support and necessary assistance in the aftermath of the incident.
A high-level probe was on Monday evening ordered following the fatal Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus accident in the Dadar area of central Mumbai, officials said, adding that a four-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident in which one person died and six others were injured.
The transport authority issued a press release confirming the accident around eight hours after the incident.
An official statement read, "In view of the seriousness of the accident, BEST has constituted a four-member committee comprising senior officials to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The committee has been directed to submit its report on priority."
The BEST Committee Chairman has also convened a meeting of all wet-lease operators and issued strict instructions aimed at preventing similar incidents and enhancing passenger and pedestrian safety across the city's transport network.
A fatal road accident involving a BEST-operated electric bus claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left several others injured on Monday morning. The incident took place at around 9.30 am on Monday while a bus travelling from Veer Kotwal Udyan (Plaza) towards Dharavi Depot collided with a crane parked at the accident site and a taxi, the officials said.
According to a statement issued by BEST, the bus was operating on Route 463 and belonged to the Kalakilla Depot under wet-lease operator Evey Trans (Olectra).
Two motorcyclists suffered serious injuries in the crash. One of them later succumbed to injuries, while the other remains admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sion Hospital.
Two BEST bus inspectors and the bus conductor who were travelling in the vehicle also sustained injuries and received treatment at Sion Hospital.
The collision caused damage to two motorcycles, one taxi and one private taxi. Emergency response teams, including the Assistant Depot Manager (Worli), accident officers and supervisory staff from the BEST Accident Department, rushed to the scene and nearby hospitals to assess the situation and ensure medical assistance for the injured.
