An accidental death case has been registered against the driver of a BEST bus after a 56-year-old woman was fatally run over at Mulund Check Naka on Friday, with the driver and the bus being retained at Mulund Police Station pending further police proceedings.
The case, registered as CR/949/2026 on August 8, has been filed against bus driver Ravi Bhagwant Bhoise, 33, under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the latest update from the Mateshwari Bus Inspector, the driver and the bus have not yet been released by the police. An objection was raised by the opposite party against the driver, following which an alcohol test was conducted at Agrawal Hospital.
Duty Officer PSI Kishor Pansare has instructed that the driver and the vehicle be retained until 9 am on August 9. The bus is accordingly stationed at Mulund Police Station.
The fatal accident took place at around 2.30 pm on August 7, 2026, at the Mulund Check Naka traffic junction.
According to preliminary information, the BEST bus, bearing fleet number 8035, was operating on Route 512/35 from Nerul Bus Station to Mulund Check Naka Bus Station.
Officials said the bus had stopped at the traffic signal. As the signal turned green, the driver moved the vehicle forward while a woman was crossing the road.
The pedestrian allegedly came into contact with the front right corner of the BEST bus, causing her to fall onto the road. The bus's right-side wheel then reportedly ran over her head, resulting in fatal injuries.
The victim was identified as Jayshri Bhanaji Parmar, 56.
The bus conductor, Shailesh Sudhakar Wagh, 26, immediately alerted the Police Control Room. Police and an ambulance reached the scene shortly afterwards.
The injured woman was taken to Agrawal Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Following the accident, the bus driver, conductor and the BEST bus were taken to Mulund Police Station for investigation.
The police are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the sequence of events at the traffic junction. The alcohol test of the driver was conducted after an objection was raised by the opposite party.
Further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
Several BEST officials, including depot and accident officers, are assisting the police inquiry.
