A 56-year-old woman died after she was <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-six-passengers-injured-as-best-bus-hits-divider-in-powai-23641238" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">run over by a Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) bus</a> while crossing the road at Mulund Check Naka in Mumbai on Friday afternoon, officials said.
The accident took place at around 2.30 pm on 7 August 2026 at the Mulund Check Naka traffic junction.
According to preliminary information, the BEST bus was operating on Route C-512/35 from Nerul Bus Station to Mulund Check Naka Bus Station.
Officials said the bus had stopped at the traffic signal. As the signal turned green, the driver moved the vehicle forward while a woman was crossing the road.
The pedestrian allegedly <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-best-bus-accident-electric-bus-crashes-in-vikhroli-seven-passengers-injured-23641214" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">came into contact with the front right corner of the BEST bus</a>, causing her to fall onto the road. The bus's right-side wheel then reportedly ran over her head, resulting in fatal injuries.
The victim has been identified as Jayshri Bhanaji Parmar (56).
<h2>Emergency response</h2>
The bus conductor immediately alerted the Police Control Room. Police and an ambulance reached the scene shortly afterwards.
The injured woman was taken to Agrawal Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
<h2>Police investigation underway</h2>
The BEST bus driver, Ravi Bhagwant Bhoise (33), and conductor, Shailesh Sudhakar Wagh (26), along with the BEST bus, were taken to Mulund Police Station for further investigation.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mankhurd-best-bus-crash-injured-commuter-recounts-horror-after-flyover-accident-23640757" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Officials said the circumstances surrounding the accident were being examined</a>, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Several BEST officials, including depot and accident officers, were present at the scene and are assisting with the inquiry.
<h2>Ceiling collapse at Majas BEST depot injures three mechanics</h2>
Meanwhile, in an another incident, three mechanics employed by a private bus operator were injured after chunks of plaster from the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-three-best-workers-hurt-as-ceiling-plaster-collapses-at-majas-depot-23643513" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">ceiling of a store room-cum-rest room collapsed</a> at the Majas BEST bus depot on August 6.
The incident occurred at around 6.45 am in a rest room used by Mateshwari Urban Transport, a private operator working with BEST.
The injured were later rushed to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari, where they received first aid and underwent a medical examination before being discharged, officials said.
