Central Railway (CR) on Wednesday, July 15, launched Emergency Medical Rooms (EMRs) at 12 stations across the Mumbai division to provide immediate medical assistance to passengers during emergencies.
An official statement from CR highlighted that EMRs at Chembur, Mankhurd and Khopoli will become operational shortly, while plans are underway to expand the facility to 40 more stations.
The initiative is part of Central Railway's efforts to enhance passenger safety and ensure quicker medical response during accidents, illnesses and other emergencies.
According to Central Railway, the EMRs are designed to provide first-aid treatment to passengers as well as railway staff who require urgent medical attention while travelling or working on the railway network.
At present, Emergency Medical Rooms are operational at the following stations:
CR further announced that work is currently in progress to establish EMRs at Chembur, Mankhurd and Khopoli, which are expected to be commissioned soon.
Central Railway further added that, "Emergency Medical Rooms are equipped with basic life-support equipment, oxygen supply, stretchers and essential medicines. Each facility is staffed round the clock by qualified doctors and trained paramedical personnel. In addition, portable laboratory services, medical stores and ambulance facilities are available to ensure timely treatment and transportation when required."
Central Railway has also floated tenders to extend the service to 40 additional stations in the Mumbai division. The expansion is aimed at significantly reducing response time during medical emergencies, particularly during the golden hour, when immediate medical intervention can be crucial in saving lives.
The railway administration said the initiative reflects its commitment to improving passenger safety and well-being by ensuring prompt medical assistance across its suburban network. As the EMR network expands, more commuters are expected to benefit from faster access to emergency healthcare services while travelling on Central Railway.
The Central Railway has reiterated that obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the railway administration is mandatory before undertaking any construction within 30 metres of railway land. The directive has been issued in view of a rise in unauthorised constructions near railway land, particularly along proposed railway project corridors.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Central Railway said the requirement is in accordance with the Railway Board's letter dated June 25, 2015, and the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR).
