A 39-year-old jogger was attacked by a pet Rottweiler on the Carter Road promenade on June 8, leading to serious injuries to the genital area.
The handler told the victim that he was only responsible for taking care of the dog and was not the owner. The Khar police registered an FIR against the handler and the owner of the dog on June 9, under Section 100 of the Maharashtra Police Act, and Sections 125, 125(B), 291, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "We have registered an FIR but haven't arrested anyone yet. We are investigating the matter," a police officer said.
"The handler is fully responsible for the incident. The dog's muzzle had been removed. We are worried about his future. He got married just two years ago. The accused should get the strictest punishment. We are thankful to PSI Sheetal Leygude, who registered an FIR and was present at the hospital during the surgery to support us," victim's uncle said.
The victim, a freelance writer residing in Santacruz, was jogging along the Carter Road promenade around 7.45 am as part of his daily routine.
While running from Khau Galli towards Otters Club, he noticed a man sitting on a bench with a Rottweiler. The complainant alleged that the dog's protective muzzle had been removed.
"Suddenly, the dog ran towards the man and pounced on him. The force knocked him to the ground, after which the dog bit his genital area, causing serious injuries. The handler then attempted to restrain and pull the dog away," a police officer said.
The dog bit the jogger's right scrotal area, causing a tear to the skin and soft tissue loss. He was rushed to the hospital by his wife and locals in the area, where doctors had to perform surgery on him.
