Central Railway to launch 14 new Mumbai AC local trains on Harbour Line from May 1; check details here

Central Railway on Wednesday announced that 14 non-AC suburban train services on the Harbour Line will be upgraded to air-conditioned (AC) services from May 1, 2026.

The move comes in response to growing passenger demand for more comfortable travel options, officials said.

With the upgrade, the total number of AC suburban services on Central Railway will increase to 108. It includes 28 services on the Harbour Line and 80 on the Main Line, they said.

The Harbour Line, which connects Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Panvel, Vashi and Belapur, first introduced AC services earlier this year on January 26, 2026.

According to an official statement, the newly upgraded services will run in both directions - towards CSMT (UP direction) and towards Panvel, Vashi, and Belapur (down direction).

The key services will include morning and evening peak-hour trains to cater to office commuters, officials said.

Weekday-only AC operations

The statement further said that these 14 services will operate as AC trains from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and notified public holidays, the same services will continue to run with non-AC coaches.

Due to the upgradation, the timings of a few existing non-AC local trains have been revised. For instance:

- The Belapur-CSMT local will now depart earlier than before

- The Vashi-CSMT service timing has been slightly adjusted

- Late-night services between CSMT and Vashi/Panvel have also been rescheduled

"Passengers are advised to check the updated timetable before planning their journey," the statement said.
