Mumbai local train staff helped return a bag containing gold worth around Rs 15 lakh to its rightful owner after it was left inside a ladies compartment of a Virar-bound train, officials said.
According to railway officials, the information was passed by the Station Superintendent at Virar Railway Station to Station Superintendent Sachin Khamker at Andheri Railway Station regarding a white printed bag left inside train number VR94048.
Officials said that the bag reportedly contained around 80 to 90 grams of gold jewellery.
Following the alert, railway staff member Suresh Rathod immediately rushed to inspect the train and successfully located the bag inside the ladies compartment.
The recovered bag was later handed over to the genuine passenger after verification.
Officials said that the railway authorities estimated the value of the gold at approximately Rs 15 lakh. It was the swift action by railway staff that helped prevent the valuables from being lost or stolen.
