An argument over a seat inside the luggage compartment of a Parel-Ambernath local train escalated into a violent scuffle that left two passengers with head injuries, landing both in hospital and prompting the Dombivli GRP to register cross FIRs.

The GRP has registered two FIRs involving Pritesh Kanojiya, 31, Raju Waghe, 19, Sahil Khandhare, 18, and two unidentified persons.

How the fight unfolded

According to Dombivli GRP, Pritesh Kanojiya, a resident of Titwala, boarded the Ambarnath-bound train at Ghatkopar, while Raju Waghe, Sahil Khandhare and two others boarded at Dombivli. Police said an argument broke out over seating inside the luggage compartment before escalating into a physical fight.

During the altercation, Kanojiya allegedly suffered a head injury after being struck by a steel kada. Police said the group allegedly got off at Thakurli, but Waghe was allegedly caught by other passengers and assaulted in retaliation. Both injured men were rescued by railway police personnel after the train reached Kalyan.

A group that boarded at Dombivli objected. "I jusy told them they could have spoken politely and they and started hitting me. Blood started dripping from my head." Khandhare disputed Kanojiya's account saying he and his friend Raju Waghe boarded at Dombivli after work at a car service centre and Kanojiya was lying across a seat while others were seated nearby. "We asked him to sit up. Raju and Pritesh started arguing, and hit each other. I tried to stop them." Khandhare said Kanojiya was already bleeding when passengers from another coach confronted Waghe.
