Mumbai Congress president and Member of Parliament Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday alleged that travel on Mumbai’s suburban railway network has become increasingly unsafe, citing a rise in assaults, murders, violent clashes and crimes against women. She accused the state government, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and railway administration of failing to ensure commuter safety.
In a statement, Gaikwad said that while commuters were already forced to endure overcrowded trains and unsafe travel conditions, the recent spate of violent incidents had made local train travel even more dangerous.
