Major police reshuffle in Maharashtra, over 50 IPS officers transferred; Manoj Kumar Sharma appointed Mumbai Joint CP

The Maharashtra government on Friday announced the transfer of more than 50 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in a major administrative reshuffle across the state.

The transfers were issued through an order by the Maharashtra Home Department and include several senior officials from Mumbai Police.

As part of the reshuffle, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Lakhmi Gautam was transferred and appointed as Special Inspector General of Police (IGP), Maharashtra State.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan Chaudhary was posted as Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare has been transferred as Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).

Manoj Kumar Sharma gets key posting

Manoj Kumar Sharma, whose life story inspired the film 12th Fail, has been appointed as Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mumbai.

His journey from poverty to becoming an IPS officer was documented in Twelfth Fail, written by Anurag Pathak. The book was later adapted into the 2023 film 12th Fail, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, with Vikrant Massey portraying Sharma. The film went on to receive widespread critical praise.

A 2005-batch IPS officer, Sharma had earlier served as DCP Zone 1 and Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) in Mumbai.

Senior officers promoted

Joint Commissioner of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Nishit Mishra and Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) Jai Kumar were promoted to the rank of Special Inspector General of Police, according to the PTI.

Several senior officers holding the rank of Special IGP, including Datta Karale, Pravin Padwal, Manoj Sharma and Suvez Haque, were also given new postings, the news agency reported.

Transfers of additional CPs and DCPs

Two Additional Commissioners of Police in Mumbai - Mahesh Patil and Paramjit Singh Dahiya - were transferred as part of the changes.

Three Deputy Commissioners of Police, namely Dixit Gedam, Pravin Munde and Krishnkant Upadhyay, were also shifted to new assignments.

Rajesh Pradhan, a 2003-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the head of Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW), reported the PTI.

Officials said the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and law enforcement operations across Maharashtra.
