Mumbai to see partly cloudy skies; IMD issues yellow alert for Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, on Sunday issued a yellow nowcast warning for Maharashtra's coastal districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds over the next three hours.

The IMD stated that thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate spells of rain, along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, are very likely to occur at isolated places in both districts during this period.

The weather department has further advised residents across the regions to remain cautious and take necessary precautions while stepping outdoors.

Mumbai weather update

While Mumbai has been experiencing extremely hot and humid conditions for the last few days, the IMD on Sunday predicted that the city is likely to witness partly cloudy skies. As per IMD, the maximum temperature across the city is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is 29 degrees Celsius.

Furthermore, Mumbai on Saturday also continued to experience typical pre-monsoon conditions, with humid weather during the day and cloudy intervals expected in several parts of Mumbai and nearby regions.

Mumbai records good air quality despite rising temperatures

Even as temperatures remained high, Mumbai's air quality stayed in the ‘good' category on Saturday. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board's Sameer app showed that the city recorded an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 41, indicating minimal impact on public health.

AQI levels vary across different parts of Mumbai

Among major monitoring stations in the city, Bandra Kurla Complex recorded an AQI of 26, while Byculla registered 40. Malad (W) reported an AQI of 44, Mazgaon recorded 27, and Chembur logged a comparatively lower reading of 26.

Furthermore, in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Thane registered an AQI of 60, while Navi Mumbai recorded 54. Kalyan reported an AQI of 100, placing it at the upper end of the moderate category.

Pune receives pre-monsoon showers

Earlier on Friday, Pune received pre-monsoon rainfall, bringing relief from the intense heat that has affected several parts of Maharashtra over the past few days.

According to the IMD, Pune recorded 13.1 mm rainfall, while the city's maximum temperature stood at 37 degrees Celsius. Light drizzles were also reported from parts of the Satara district.
