Days after a man allegedly drowned in Thane's Mithbandar Creek, multiple teams of fire brigade, police and fishermen joined a massive operation to recover the body.
"A large-scale search operation was carried out in Thane after a person reportedly fell into the creek at Mithbandar," an official said.
Rescue teams has continued the search efforts for two consecutive days with the help of boats and local fishermen.
According to officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the incident was reported on May 16, 2026.
Following the incident, disaster management officials, Kopri police personnel, the Thane Disaster Response Force and the Thane Fire Brigade rushed to the spot, the RDMC said.
On Friday, rescue personnel conducted a search operation in the Mithbandar creek area for nearly five hours using boats.
Local fishermen also assisted the authorities during the operation.
Teams from the Regional Disaster Management Cell, the Thane Disaster Response Force and the Fire Brigade remained present at the site with emergency vehicles.
However, the person could not be traced, following which the search operation was temporarily suspended for the day.
The search operation resumed on Saturday with disaster management officials, police personnel and fire brigade teams once again deployed at the scene.
Two boats were used to carry out the operation in the creek area. Rescue teams searched the waters for nearly six hours with assistance from local fishermen.
Officials later suspended the operation after the second day's search.
In an another incident, in April, a 10-year-old boy lost his life after drowning while he was swimming with his friends in a lake in Thane city, police had earlier said.
The incident took place at a lake in the Mogarpada locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kasarwadavali Police Station.
According to police, the boy had gone to the lake with his friends and entered the water for a swim, during which he drowned.
His friends raised an alarm after the incident, prompting police and fire brigade personnel to rush to the scene. After a search operation, the boy's body was later recovered from the lake.
