A truck accident on the Eastern Express Highway near Ghatkopar caused severe traffic congestion during Friday morning's peak hours, significantly disrupting vehicular movement towards central and south Mumbai.
The incident took place on the southbound carriageway near the Views by Adani residential complex, leading to long queues of vehicles and delays for commuters travelling from the eastern suburbs towards central and south Mumbai.
According to officials, the accident involved a trailer truck that reportedly lost control and came to a halt along the highway stretch opposite the residential complex. The incident led to a major bottleneck on the busy arterial road, with traffic moving slowly for a considerable period during the morning rush hour.
According to the Mumbai Traffic Police, traffic movement slowed majorly near Ramabai Bridge in the Vikhroli south-bound stretch following the accident involving the trailer.
Visuals from the scene showed the damaged trailer stationed along the side of the road while recovery teams deployed a crane to remove the vehicle and clear the affected lane. Several motorists were seen stranded in heavy traffic as vehicles crawled through the congested stretch.
The impact of the accident was particularly visible near the Ramabai Bridge area in the Vikhroli southbound stretch, where traffic movement slowed considerably. Commuters heading towards key business districts in south Mumbai reported delays due to the congestion.
The Mumbai Traffic Police confirmed the disruption through an update posted on social media earlier in the day.
"Traffic movement is slow at Ramabai Bridge (Vikhroli) south bound due to trailer accident," the traffic police said, advising motorists to expect delays along the route.
Traffic personnel were deployed at the site to regulate vehicular movement and assist in clearing the affected stretch. Authorities worked alongside recovery teams to remove the damaged vehicle and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether any injuries were reported in the accident. Further details regarding the cause of the crash are also awaited.
The Eastern Express Highway is one of Mumbai's busiest road corridors, connecting the eastern suburbs with central and south Mumbai. Accidents or vehicle breakdowns along the route frequently result in major traffic snarls, especially during office hours when vehicular movement is at its peak.
