In a move aimed at enhancing passenger safety and tackling the growing menace of stray dogs at railway stations, the Western Railway has designated station superintendents and station masters (in-charge) of all the stations in its Mumbai Division as nodal officers to prevent stray dog-related incidents.
The order, issued by the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Mumbai Central, follows directions from the Supreme Court of India, as well as instructions issued by the Railway Board and Western Railway headquarters. A copy of the order is with mid-day.
Under the directive, the designated nodal officers will be responsible for ensuring that station premises remain free of stray dogs. They have been tasked with coordinating with municipal authorities for the removal and management of stray dogs, conducting regular inspections, strengthening preventive measures to stop stray dogs from entering station premises, and maintaining records of compliance.
The officers have also been instructed to prominently display their names and contact details at station entrances, ensure strict implementation of all directives issued by the Railway Board and the Supreme Court from time to time, and submit compliance reports to the Divisional Office whenever required.
