The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been formally inducted to provide security at the Propellant Complex, Rasayani, an important Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) facility in Maharashtra's Raigad district, an official statement said.
The facility, located around 80 km from Mumbai and 20 km from Panvel, is part of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR) under the Department of Space. It is a key unit responsible for producing propellants for launch vehicles.
With the induction, the Propellant Complex, Rasayani has become the 32nd vital installation in Maharashtra to come under CISF security cover.
The move is aimed at strengthening security arrangements at the specialised facility, which plays an important role in supporting India's space programme.
The induction ceremony was attended by senior officials from Indian Space Research Organisation and CISF and was presided over by CISF DIG Ajay Kumar Khandelwal.
During the ceremony, Sanjay Jain, General Head, Propellant Complex, Rasayani, formally handed over the security key to Assistant Commandant Ravi Teja R, marking the beginning of CISF security responsibilities at the facility.
Around 120 people attended the programme, including senior officials, fire services personnel, DGR security personnel and CISF personnel.
The Propellant Complex, Rasayani supplies earth-storable oxidiser used for operational launch vehicles, including the PSLV, GSLV and LVM3.
Given the strategic importance of the facility, its security is considered crucial to protecting critical infrastructure associated with India's space programme.
The CISF said its deployment will provide a dedicated and professionally structured security framework while working closely with ISRO management.
Speaking at the ceremony, DIG Ajay Kumar Khandelwal said the induction was an important step towards strengthening security at a critical installation linked to India's space programme.
He said the facility requires a high level of vigilance, specialised preparedness and a robust security framework. He added that CISF would work closely with ISRO to ensure comprehensive security without affecting the facility's operational requirements.
Sanjay Jain said the secure functioning of the Propellant Complex was of national significance and that the induction of CISF would further strengthen existing security arrangements.
The programme began with a ceremonial Guard of Honour, followed by the lighting of a lamp and the unfurling of the CISF flag.
The latest deployment further expands the CISF's role in protecting strategically important installations across Maharashtra, officials said.
