More than 50 police personnel and over 50 protesters were injured after clashes broke out during the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) 'Chalo Sansad' march in New Delhi on Monday, reported the PTI.
According to police sources, the confrontation began after some protesters allegedly threw stones at security personnel. Police responded with a baton charge to disperse the crowd.
Both injured protesters and police personnel were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Delhi Police detained more than 100 protesters from several locations across the New Delhi district, including Parliament Street, Patel Chowk, Constitution Club, Shastri Bhawan and nearby areas, the news agency reported.
The detainees were taken to various police stations and temporary detention centres.
Police sources said those detained would be released after verification and completion of legal formalities.
According to the PTI, the security forces fired tear gas at several locations to disperse protesters and prevent them from moving towards Parliament.
Police said legal action had been initiated against those allegedly involved in the violence.
Security was further strengthened across the high-security district following the clashes.
Thousands of students, young people and activists gathered in central Delhi as part of the CJP's 'Chalo Sansad' march.
The protesters demanded accountability over alleged examination irregularities and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The march coincided with the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session.
Police said demonstrators repeatedly attempted to cross multiple barricades set up around Parliament Street, Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations despite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), as per the PTI.
The stand-off continued throughout the day as protesters regrouped and attempted to reach Parliament through alternative routes.

Before the march, Delhi Police appealed to protesters to remain peaceful and cooperate with security personnel.
The force also urged the public not to share rumours or unverified information on social media and advised people to rely only on official sources, reported the PTI.
During the protest, Delhi Police denied claims circulating online that activist Sonam Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, had been assaulted by police personnel.
The force also rejected reports that CJP founder Abhijit Dipke had been detained, stating that the claim was false and that he remained present at the protest venue.
The demonstrations gathered momentum following activist Sonam Wangchuk's ongoing hunger strike over alleged examination irregularities, according to the PTI.
Wangchuk remains admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors said his vital signs were stable, although he continues to require close medical observation.
The CJP has said its demands include the resignation of the Union Education Minister, compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide over examination-related issues, and Wangchuk's release from hospital.
