Maharashtra: Jalna police seize 41 weapons, arrest 23-year-old over alleged illegal arms stock

Police officials in Jalna have seized 41 weapons, including 22 sharp swords, 15 daggers and four choppers, allegedly stocked for illegal sale and criminal activities in Jalna, city of Maharashtra. The operation led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man with a criminal background, an official said on Monday.

According to PTI, the accused has been identified as Shaikh Majeed Latif, a resident of Sundarnagar in Chandazira. His accomplice is on the run.

Acting on information received through an informer, police officials further learned that the accused had stored swords, daggers and choppers at his residence for illegal sale and to create fear among people. Officials asserted that the weapons were seized on Monday.

Two accused arrested

Majed was remanded to police custody until August 12, the official said, adding that the police are investigating the source of weapons and intended recipients, as per PTI.

According to police, both accused are habitual offenders with several cases registered against them at various police stations in Jalna.

Nagpur man allegedly murdered by friends over Rs 3,000 loan

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his friends over an unpaid loan of Rs 3,000, news agency PTI reported. The police have arrested two individuals allegedly behind the crime and cracked the blind murder case, despite having no eyewitnesses or direct evidence, Nagpur Police said on Sunday.

The victim, Atul Chandrakant Tiwari, was a resident of Bhim Nagar on Hingna Road. His decomposed body was found on July 20 in a forested area near a well at Mangli under Kalmeshwar Police Station limits.

The police initially registered an accidental death case. However, a post-mortem examination confirmed that Tiwari was murdered.

The police, while briefing about the incident, noted that the victim's face was badly decomposed. His identity was established with the help of technical evidence. The police also found that a missing person's complaint had been filed at MIDC Police Station on July 22.

"The investigation was difficult, as there were no eyewitnesses or clear clues. The Local Crime Branch studied CCTV footage, analysed technical evidence, and collected confidential information," an official said.

During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that Tiwari had borrowed Rs 3,000 from them. He had not returned the money for the past two months despite repeated demands, leading to the murder on July 17, the police said.
