In a major breakthrough, Nashik Police on Tuesday have busted an interstate gang of robbers and arrested four people for their alleged involvement in a crime in the Panchavati area of the city, an official told news agency PTI on Tuesday.
During the operation, the police seized firearms, resembling a revolver and an MP5 rifle, whose authenticity is being verified.
On July 8, three persons posing as police personnel forced the complainant into a 'government' car fitted with a beacon.
They threatened him at gunpoint before snatching away his bag containing Rs 70 lakh cash and his mobile phone, the police said.
A case was registered with Panchvati Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and section 3 (25) of the Arms Act. The accused, including a woman, were arrested in Mumbai during investigations.
Police seized goods valued at Rs 82 lakh, including Rs 55.10 lakh in cash, a car fitted with a government beacon, fake ID cards of various government departments, and rubber stamps.
In a separate incident, a 51-year-old scooter rider was killed after a car allegedly driven by the son of a prominent builder and local politician rammed into his two-wheeler in Maharashtra's Thane district. Police have arrested the accused and seized the vehicle involved as part of the ongoing investigation.
The accident took place in the early hours of Monday in Ulhasnagar, while the victim was travelling towards Shahad.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 am when Devendra Singh Rajput, a resident of Mharl village in Kalyan, was riding his scooter towards Shahad.
Officials said a car allegedly driven by Avinash Mutha (32) struck Rajput's scooter, causing him to suffer severe injuries. He succumbed to his injuries following the crash.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The accused, Avinash Mutha, was arrested on Monday afternoon after a case was registered against him based on a complaint filed by the victim's son.
According to police, Mutha is the son of a Kalyan-based jeweller, builder and politician.
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act for allegedly causing the death of the scooter rider.
