Vehicular traffic on both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway has been suspended in both directions after a landslide triggered by incessant heavy rainfall, authorities said on Monday.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have halted the movement of vehicles towards both Mumbai and Pune until further notice to ensure the safety of commuters as the region continues to receive heavy monsoon showers.
The closure comes amid widespread rainfall across the Western Ghats, where adverse weather has also disrupted rail services following a landslide in the Karjat-Lonavala Ghat section.
Officials have appealed to the public to avoid travelling between Mumbai and Pune until road connectivity is restored.
Motorists have been advised to postpone non-essential journeys and monitor official traffic updates and advisories before planning their travel.
Authorities said the temporary suspension has been imposed purely in the interest of public safety as heavy rain continues to impact the region and restoration efforts remain underway.
