With accreditation issues still to be sorted, security personnel at CWG venues have a tough task on their hands. On Wednesday, three people were arrested in separate incidents at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex and Talkatora Stadium for trying to get in using accreditation cards belonging to other people. A police officer said two separate FIRs have been filed regarding the incidents.

"Two youths, who have been arrested, were offered jobs by private companies. They were asked to serve tea to VIPs. But they did not have valid accreditation so the employers intentionally gave them ID cards belonging to others so that they could get inside the stadium. Both have been charged for impersonation. One of the company executives has been arrested while the other will be nabbed soon," said a senior police officer.

In the first incident a person named Sagar was caught by constable Amit Kumar deployed outside Talkatora Stadium when the accused was trying to enter, sporting a different person's accreditation card. The card belonged to someone named Babloo and since his picture was on the card, Sagar was detained for impersonation.

"Sagar claimed that he had been lured by a person named Vineet Trehan with the offer of providing him a part-time job. Vineet allegedly gave him Babloo's ID card and asked him to work for his firm, Sign Age, inside the stadium. Vineet promised him Rs 200 per day. He too has been arrested," said a senior police officer.
In another case Dhamesh Kumar was detained by police at the VIP entry gate of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium for impersonation.

"Dhamesh said that a person called Amrish gave him an accreditation card and asked him to serve tea to VIPs guests. Amrish promised Dhamesh Rs 300 per day and gave him a card with the name Manoj on it. We will arrest Amrish too," said the officer.

Tech Cheack

Security personnel posted for access control at Commonwealth Games venues on Tuesday had a tough time as card readers and flap barriers developed technical glitches on many occasions.
In some cases, the photographs of card holders did not appear on the screen while in some cases, the flap barriers did not function properly. This forced the security personnel to manually check every pass resulting in queue.
These problems were envisaged earlier and security personnel were given instructions on how to handle such situations, a senior police official said.
Chances of technical glitches were also mentioned in the Union Home Ministry's guidelines for spectators asking them to cooperate in such a scenario.
Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal has given specific instructions to his men for carrying out proper searches, frisking and identification of the card holder in case the flap barrier developed glitches.
