SJAM shine at Sports Journalists Federation of India convention

The Sports Journalists' Association of Mumbai (SJAM) excelled at the recent Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) National Convention organised by the hosts Delhi Sports Journalists Association (DSJA) in New Delhi.

At the annual gathering where the nation's sports journalists compete in sporting events like cricket, table tennis, football (penalty kicks) and basketball (free throws), SJAM won most of the trophies.

The West Zone team, comprising 11 SJAM members, that finished runners-up at the JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 tournament in New Delhi

While the Akash Rawal-led North Zone team won the JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 cricket title, the Sanjjeev Samyal-led West Zone side, comprising 11 SJAM members,
finished runners-up.

A three-member SJAM team, comprising Amol Karhadkar, Ashwin Ferro and Ankush Dhavre then clinched the AC Bali Table Tennis Team Championship title, beating DSJA's Bharat Sharma and Kushan Sarkar in the final.

Karhadkar also won the singles crown, beating Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists Association's K Keerthivasan in the summit clash. SJAM also won the TT doubles title, with Karhadkar and Ferro beating DSJA's Sharma and Sarkar in the final.

SJAM finally swept the football penalty kicks event, clinching both first and second place with the trio of Karhadkar, Dhavre and Rutvick Mehta beating Ferro, Sudheendra Tripathi and Irfan Haji in the final. The Sports Writers Association of Bangalore won the free throws event.
