The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/business/stock-market/article/-sensex-slumps-over-450-points-nifty-loses-over-65-points-amid-rising-crude-oil-prices-23643669" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">domestic equity benchmark indices</a> gained for the second consecutive week, with easing crude oil prices and strong Q1 FY27 earnings results of some of the corporates boosting the investor sentiment.&nbsp;
The Sensex added 0.52 per cent during the week to end at 78,499.17, while Nifty jumped 0.77 per cent during the week to settle at 24,570.65.
"In the last week, the benchmark indices witnessed range-bound activity. After a roller-coaster activity, the Nifty ended 0.77 percent higher, while the Sensex was up by 400 points," Amol Athawale, VP Technical Research, Kotak Securities said.
"During the week, the market opened with a gap up, but after a strong start, it registered some profit booking at higher levels," he added.
According to Bajaj Broking Research, the broader trend remaining constructive, highlighting that small cap stocks continued to outperform, while PSU Banks emerged as one of the strongest-performing sectors during the week.&nbsp;
<h2>New closing auction session for futures and options&nbsp;</h2>
However, for the entire week, Sensex and Nifty faced divergence after stock exchanges introduced a new auction mechanism for shares having futures and options (F&amp;O) contracts on August 3. The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/business/business-news/article/closing-auction-session-system-to-enhance-robustness-of-price-discovery-mechanism-sebi-23643611" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">closing auction session aimed at making the price discovery process more transparent and robust</a>, introduced a layer of volatility in the benchmark indices, with the indices closing with an aberration on Monday.
The Sensex jumped 544.39 points, or 0.70 per cent, to settle at 78,639.03, &nbsp;while the Nifty climbed 390.70 points, or 1.60 per cent, to end at 24,774.30 on Monday. Generally both the indices move in sync but the newly implemented CAS made the Nifty shoot up over 1.5 per cent.
Following this, on Tuesday, the Nifty corrected sharply, trading throughout in the negative territory. Both the indices had ended lower on Tuesday and the new system had created some uncertainty among the market participants even on Wednesday.&nbsp;
"After an initially volatile start triggered by the rollout of the new F&amp;O Closing Auction Session (CAS), markets regained stability as participants adapted to the revised framework. Sentiment improved meaningfully with the sharp decline in crude oil prices, which helped strengthen the macroeconomic outlook and supported expectations of easing inflationary pressures," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments said.
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/world-news/article/us-iran-conflict-oil-prices-ease-after-us-and-iran-pause-their-attacks-23641752" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">crude oil prices had eased initially</a>, however, with tension simmering in West Asia after Yemen's Houthis attacking Saudi Oil tankers and oil prices rising following Iran's restrictive draft plan for Strait of Hormuz, the market indices ended lower on Friday.
The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 455.59 points, or 0.58 per cent, to settle at 78,499.17, while the 50-share NSE Nifty shed 65.35 points, or 0.27 per cent, to end at 24,570.65 on Friday.&nbsp;
<h2>Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee</h2>
The Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday announced the outcome of its Monetary Policy Committee, where the apex bank<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/business/business-news/article/rbi-keeps-repo-rate-unchanged-at-5-25-per-cent-amid-global-uncertainties-after-concluding-monetary-policy-committee-mpc-23643273" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"> kept the key policy rate (repo rate) unchanged at 5.25 per cent</a>, boosting the investor sentiment.&nbsp;
"On the domestic front, the RBI reinforced confidence by maintaining its policy stance, while modestly upgrading its growth outlook and lowering inflation projections. The ongoing Q1FY27 earnings season has further strengthened investor confidence, with results broadly exceeding expectations and driving broad-based buying interest," Nair added.&nbsp;
<h2>Market Outlook</h2>
"Primary market activity is expected to remain robust next week, with five mainboard IPOs Molbio Diagnostics, Dhoot Transmission, Milky Mist Dairy Food, Shiprocket and Behari Lal Engineering scheduled to open for subscription, representing a combined issue size of approximately Rs 7,479 crore. Meanwhile, Technocraft Ventures, LEAP India and Ardee Industries are scheduled to list on the stock exchanges, with a combined issue size of around Rs 3,158 crore," Siddhartha Khemka Head of Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services said.
"Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor India's Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation data, the ongoing Q1FY27 earnings season, US CPI and PPI inflation, the OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report, and China's industrial production and retail sales data for further cues on inflation, global growth and commodity prices,"&nbsp; he added.
In June, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/business/business-news/article/wpi-inflation-rises-to-987-per-cent-in-june-amid-west-asia-crisis-23639743" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">India's wholesale price index inflation rose to 9.87 per cent in June</a>, from 9.68 per cent in May amid West Asia crisis. The consumer price index inflation too jumped to 4.38 per cent in June 2026 from 3.93 per cent in May 2026, driven by higher food and transport costs.
"Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor upcoming US labour market and inflation data for further clarity on the Fed's policy trajectory. Domestically, CPI and WPI inflation readings, along with credit growth trends, will provide important insights into India's growth-inflation dynamics," Nair said.
