Archana also visited her ancestral village Dudhali, showcasing the 200-year-old family home, a school built by her father, and a 150-year-old room once belonging to her grandfather
Archana Puran Singh
Archana Puran Singh recently visited her hometown of Dehradun and gave a tour of the house where she grew up. She invited us into her 75-year-old mansion, which was built by her late father, criminal lawyer Puran Singh. In addition, she visited her ancestral village, Dudhali, near Dehradun, and showed visitors around her 200-year-old family home.
Archana recalled her childhood recollections of living in the comfortable house her father had built. She posted a video of the small garden where, as she remembered, the family would eat lunch together in the winter sun. The house opens into a book-filled lobby that doubles as an indoor sitting area and library, with views of the garden beyond.
She stated that the intricate timber work on the lobby's roof was done by Kashmiri craftsmen who had been specially invited to Dehradun by her father for the project. Archana then showed us the house's enormous dining and living areas, noting that some of the furniture and wall fittings are over 50 years old.
Archana Puran Singh got emotional revisiting her ancestral home
Archana then brought the audience to her ancestral village, Dudhali. She showed a photo of the village school, which her father built on the same plot of land as their 200-year-old ancestral home. Archana and her extended family own the farmland that surrounds the school. She went on: "Whatever farms you see around belong to us - brothers, cousins, me and our family members."
Archana also disclosed that her father had created the road in front of the school. "Dad wanted to make a school in his village where there was nothing," she told me. The school holds deep ancestral importance because it is linked to her family's history. She even revealed the 150-year-old room that belonged to her grandfather. Archana's mother was brought to tears when she visited the house where she had arrived as a newlywed. Archana also uploaded a photo of a big 300-year-old tree planted by her great-grandfather.
Archana gave a glimpse of her own land
She went on to conduct a tour of the farmland surrounding the school. Archana later released a video of her own parcel of land, from which one can see both the Himalayas and the Shivalik hills. "When we retire, we will build a house here on our own land," she told me.
Archana also gave a peek into the guest homes her family has built near the property, where visitors may stay and enjoy the tranquil mountain life. The family also enjoyed a delicious lunch there, but it took some time. As a hungry Parmeet Sethi moaned about the lunch delay, Archana admonished him in a lighthearted manner: 'Chup kar, jawai ki tarah behave mat kar' (Be quiet, don't behave like the son-in-law).
