Music composer Amaal Mallik has reacted to the sexual harassment allegations made against his uncle and musician Anu Malik. The allegations surfaced during the MeToo movement in 2018. Amaal said he does not consider Anu Malik family and explained why he never spoke about it back then.

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal said, “I didn’t talk or support Anu Malik when he was accused during the MeToo movement. It was not my concern because I don’t consider him my family. I was very embarrassed when he was accused of these things. We never had a relationship. But I think if so many people raised their voice against him, there must be some truth to it. Why would people come forward otherwise? There’s no smoke without fire. Five people can’t speak out against the same person without reason.”
He added, “Once my dad asked me if I too would be dragged into this movement. I said, there’s no chance. I can never be the person who asks for physical favours in return for songs. All the girls who’ve worked with me have felt safe.”
However, Amaal said that he behaves respectfully towards his uncle. “I’m respectful towards him when I see him in public. But after knowing his wrongdoings, I’m not on good terms with him. I don’t have any relationship with his family. I haven’t met them in years. I don’t attend parties. They were invited for Armaan’s wedding and did attend. It’s more like professional rivalry,” he said.
Amaal reveals Anu Malik sabotaged his father's career
The composer revealed that Anu Malik was overly competitive and would often sabotage his father Daboo Malik’s career.
“When Daboo Malik and Anu Malik meet, you can’t separate them. They’re like mad brothers. But in terms of professional dynamics and jealousy, Anu Malik can get a little fiery. They’ve had issues with each other professionally. Anu Malik was overly competitive with my father. He wanted to prove he’s the best composer in the family and often tried to sabotage my dad’s career. Every time my dad got a movie, he would go and snatch his work from the producers by offering to work for less money or even for free.”
