Netflix’s The Royals is facing another reported shake-up behind the camera, with the second season bringing a new director into the picture once again. After Jasmeet K. Reen reportedly exited the project shortly after filming began, Mitakshara Kumar took over the directorial duties. Now, a fresh report says Kumar has also stepped away, with Tanuj Chopra set to take charge. The development adds another twist to the production of the romantic drama led by Ishaan Khatter. While the makers have not publicly confirmed every detail, the repeated changes have drawn attention to the creative direction of the upcoming season.
Why Mitakshara Kumar has reportedly left The Royals 2
According to Variety India, Kumar and the team parted ways amicably because her creative vision was reportedly incompatible with theirs. The publication quoted a source saying, “Her vision was incompatible with the team’s.” Kumar had taken over after Reen’s reported exit in September. She is known for assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on films including Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat and Gangubai Kathiawadi, and for directing episodes of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Kumar had begun directing in Jaipur, with Nitya Mehra expected to join the project. The latest report, however, names Chopra as the new director, highlighting how quickly the production situation appears to have evolved.
