They can't speak too much English, so they let their work do the talking. The Institute of Indian Interior Designers and Roff have flown down Hungarian installation artists Vass Sandor and Szilagyi Rudolf to create installations that define India. And they've managed to do just that. The artists whose masterpieces will be on display today at the Rachna Sansad, speak to CS about how they went about creating their installations: <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2010/jul/hungary.jpg" border="5" /> ...u00a0Do as the Indians do The only thing that the talented twosome were sure of when they came to India was the fact that they wanted their installations to be symbolic of our country. And they had no idea what to expect from India - all they knew was that they had to stay away from street food, avoid public loos and to bargain before making any purchases. But when they landed here and took in the sights and colours of the place, they were awestruck and their creative juices started flowing. Says Rudolf, "When I was walking down the streets I saw a lot of colour, crowds, traffic and it all seemed very chaotic initially. But then I came to find it all very beautiful and I've tried to demonstrate the simplicity behind this madness in my installation." Vass on the other hand, wasn't able to achieve the installation that he originally had in mind. The shape is symbolic of a wave and I've filled the cups with powdered colour that represent the various shades of India. I wanted the cups to shake to Indian music but technically that wasn't possible. I guess that's what art is about - you have to improvise all the time." Chor Bazaari But more than creating the installation, the artists have had a blast shopping for it. They were whisked away straight to Chor Bazaar where the two freaked out on the variety of goods available there. Laughs Rudolf, "It's a crazy place but I enjoyed walking down that stretch. Fortunately, we had someone to do the bargaining for us!" Vass seems blown over by the place. "It's a great place for artists like us -- very inspiring. In fact, I want to make another trip to that place," he says very matter-of-factly. Simply India And they've been inspired and how! "India is very positive. It's nothing like Europe and that's the beauty of it. I've been driving since the last six years and I've only had to push the horn thrice. But here I think a day would be enough to add to that score. But that's what makes India so unique," signs off Vass.
