Actress Haelyn Shastri, who plays Anti-Terrorist Squad officer Malvika Gupta in Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, talks about manifesting her role, why she accepted the part despite no assurance of dialogues, celebrating the film’s success and more.

How did you get Sooryavanshi?

I went to watch Simmba and in the end I saw Sooryavanshi is an upcoming movie of Rohit sir. So I instantly felt I should be a part of this film. I started manifesting resources to act with Akshay Kumar. I have the habit of reading credits till the end of the film and tried to search them over various platforms and started looking for their email ids. Being hopeful, I made the first move by sending my profile and congratulating them for Simmba’s success. After few weeks I received revert from sir’s team saying thank you and we will see if you’re fit for the role as it is a cop movie so there is not much of female roles so we'll let you know. After a month or two, they informed me there is a cop’s role in this film with less dialogues but the character will be throughout the film. I rejected a few TV roles and waited for this one. Time flew and I heard  Sooryavanshi’s  shoot started. With heavy heart I tried to accept the rejection.  One day I got a call that there is one more cop role but we’re not sure if there will be any dialogues yet we want an actor only for this role so we want to know are you interested. There was no name of this character until recently when I wore police uniform as ATS Malvika Gupta. And that’s how I bagged this role.

Why did you take up the role despite the short screen time?

I agree visibility for an actor is very important it’s not just small or big role but it is the role, the character by which people will connect with you, of course it will be based on how you perform. But as much as bigger screen space is important even a small role also creates an impact if the character is strong.

Now that the film is a hit how are you celebrating its success?

I’m grateful and so glad that I am a part of Sooryanvanshi. I thought the role I was shortlisted for had gone from my hands and there was no possibility of getting it back even after manifesting the cop role for six months and keeping constant contact with the film team. I have received a lot of blessings from everyone; it overwhelmed me because I don’t have a Godfather in the industry. I will always be grateful to the Sooryanvanshi team, Rohit Shetty  and Akshay Kumar. Each one of them has been supportive as my character, ATS Malvika Gupta came with no assurance of dialogues.
