Intense is what you get when Imtiaz Ali is at the helm. His Partition drama, starring Vedang Raina and Sharvari (Love in the time of Partition, June 14), just got bigger with the addition of Welsh actor Banita Sandhu, who is paired opposite Diljit Dosanjh in the yet-untitled film. Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, the new couple was recently spotted shooting near the Asiatic Library in Mumbai.

“The film focuses on two love stories. The first schedule kicked off in August this year. Banita, who made her film debut with the Varun Dhawan-starrer October (2018), was last seen in Ravi Chhabriya’s Detective Sherdil. It is where Imtiaz spotted Banita and cast her opposite Diljit,” informs a source.

Once the flood situation in Punjab is resolved, the crew will shift to Amritsar in October to can the rest of the film. The source adds, “Two more senior actors are yet to come on board. And Imtiaz is still in talks with a few to take up senior roles in [the narrative]. Besides the love story, the film [will also focus on] the families who were uprooted from their home states, migration. Diljit and Banita’s is more about the pre-partition days set in Mumbai and Punjab.”
