Bhumi Pednekar is an actress who has made waves for her appearance right from her debut film. In her first Hindi film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, which introduced her to the audience, she played the role of a woman who weighed around 100 kg. She broke stereotypes about what a leading lady should look like and won hearts with her acting chops. However, after her first film, she gradually lost weight and is now focused on fitness and self-love. In a recent interview, she spoke about her physical transformation, both on and off screen.

Bhumi Pednekar on overcoming body issues

Talking to Hindustan Times, Bhumi Pednekar opened up about battling body image issues and dealing with trolls who comment on her appearance. When asked about her fitness goals and overcoming body image struggles, the actress shared, “I feel that doesn’t ever go away. That’s because we’ve grown up in an environment where we were subjected to different kinds of comments. But you have to learn to love yourself, and that’s a process.”

She added, “It has taken me a lot of time, and I still have days where I feel heartbroken about things. But the point is that I have a routine that keeps me in check. For me, physical health is also about mental health — it’s not just about how you look externally.”

The actress said that physical fitness is also a key part of her mental well-being. “It’s also about how you feel internally. Every time I’m in a workout routine, I spend a lot of time telling myself that I’m doing this for my body. I want to live longer and be the fittest version of myself. I gain a lot of mental clarity every time I run or walk. That’s the only way you can truly take care of yourself,” she said.

Addressing the constant trolling and criticism about her appearance on the internet, Bhumi added, “I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum. There was a time when I was 96 kg, and there were opinions then. Now, I look different, and there are opinions now. The point is that I’m in the public eye, and that’s okay. I am for the audience, and while I listen to everything they say, in the end, I do what’s right for me.”
