Ahead of World Environment Day on June 5, actor Bhumi Pednekkar, producer Aparna Purohit, and Saher Bhamla have joined forces to support not only an eco-friendly means of transport, but also one that puts the power in women’s hands. Today, the trio will launch the Pink E-rickshaw Support Initiative, which will enable 1000 women in Mumbai to become financially independent.
Over the years, Pednekkar has thrown her weight behind environment-friendly campaigns. This one is all the more meaningful to the actor as it provides employment to women across the state. “Sustainability cannot be discussed in isolation. It has to be linked with people and livelihoods. When a woman is empowered to earn for herself and her family, it creates a ripple effect. When that empowerment is via a greener solution, it becomes even more meaningful,” said the actor, adding that real change happens when people feel included in the solution.
