Last week, several B-Town artistes voiced support for 15-year-old Assamese singer Nahid Afrin, when 46 clerics issued a pamphlet (misreported as a fatwa) against her.
Hoping that the Government of Assam protects her, composer Vishal Dadlani told mid-day, "It's unfortunate that we live in a climate where there's proliferation of godmen and religious leaders across religions. Nahid's voice is a gift."
Singer Papon tweeted, "Whoever is responsible for targetting Nahid is depriving a generation of trust and warmth, and creating a Gen X tougher and colder. Unfair."
Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha posted, "In this era, there is no place for fatwas. I'm deeply upset by the reported fatwa against Nahid."
