Now, his father and filmmaker, David Dhawan, has come out in support of his son. The veteran director addressed the criticism, shared advice he gave Varun, and reflected on his growth as an actor. He also opened up about his comparisons with Salman Khan and Govinda.

Speaking to Pinkvilla about the same, he said, “But kya hua? Sab ulat gaya na (But what happened? Everything fell flat on its face).” Talking about the advice he gave to Varun to deal with criticism, he said, “Today, everything is work. I told him this will get over. Kuch din baad yehi log bolenge ki ye toh bohot achha hai (After some days, these people themselves will say Varun is very good).”
