Trimurti Films has filed a lawsuit against the makers of Dhurandhar 2, B62 Studios, over the unauthorised use of the song Rang De Lal in the film. The lawsuit sought relief restraining further use of the song, along with damages and other consequential reliefs

Bollywood production company Trimurti Films, on Wednesday, filed a suit against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s production house, B62 Studios, accusing them of using the song Rang De Lal in Dhurandhar 2 without appropriate authorisation. The song is a recreated version of the song Tirchi Topiwale, whose rights are owned by the Trimurti.
Trimurti Films sues Dhurandhar 2
According to a Bar and Bench report, the dispute emerged from the rights to the song, Tirchi Topiwale, originally co-composed by Anand–Milind, with lyrics by Sameer Anjaan. The song originally featured in the 1989 film Tridev, with vocals by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee.
Trimurti Films alleged that the song, or a version substantially similar to it, has been used in the defendant’s film without acquiring the requisite licences or permissions. According to sources, Trimurti has claimed ownership and control over the relevant rights in the musical work as well as its sound recording. In the lawsuit, the production company claimed that the use of its song amounts to copyright infringement, including unauthorised reproduction and communication of the work to the public.
The suit by Trimurti seeks injunctive relief restraining further use of the song, along with damages and other consequential relief. They have also raised concerns over potential commercial exploitation of the track through the theatrical release, streaming platforms and promotional material of Dhurandhar 2.

The film also features Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun in lead roles. It is helmed by Aditya Dhar, with music composed by Shashwat Sachdev. The film has become the biggest Bollywood film of all time, earning over Rs 1, 000 crore at the box office in India.
