Actor, Ranveer Singh's upcoming film Dhurandhar has found itself in a legal soup just days ahead of its release. As per a latest update, Ashoka Chakra Awardee, Major Mohit Sharma's parents have moved the Delhi High Court on Friday, demanding an urgent stay on the release of the film. They claimed that the film takes inspiration on their son without taking their permission.

Major Mohit Sharma's parents want a stay on Dhurandhar


According to the legal news portal, Bar and Bench, the parents have demanded that the court impose an urgent stay on the release of the film. This comes days ahead of its scheduled release on December 5, 2025.



The portal shared the news on their X account, writing, "The parents of Ashoka Chakra Awardee, Major Mohit Sharma, have moved the Delhi High Court seeking urgent stay on the release of the film ‘Dhurandhar’." A trailing tweet read, "Relief has been sought against - Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Indian Army and the director and producer of the film."

According to the report, the petition mentions that important aspects of Major Sharma's life and military service, including covert counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir, are seen reimagined in the movie's trailer and promotional materials. The family notes that although Dhurandhar is allegedly connected to Major Sharma's life in media reports, the filmmakers have neither acknowledged nor consulted them.

Notably, on Wednesday, November 26, director Aditya Dhar replied to Major Mohit's brother, Madhur Sharma, on X. Madhur tagged the filmmaker on X and asked if the film was based on the undercover spy. Aditya cleared the air and denied the rumours that saying that the film is inspired by Braveheart.

Madhur wrote, "A credible media house is expected to report facts and not mere speculations. People are having a field day adding to it. The parents are waiting for that one confirmation whether this is about their son. AdityaDharFilms I don't think it's Mohit, do you ?"

The URI filmmaker replied, "Hi, sir - our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification. I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honours his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us. Jai Hind."

Dhuradhar is produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, and stars Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal in pivotal roles. Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi will also be seen in key roles. The film is expected to be released in two parts, with the first part scheduled to hit the big screen on December 5, 2025, followed by the second in 2026.
