... the other side of Pankuj Parashar

Not many know that Pankuj Parashar is also a digital artist. The B-Town director says he prefers being at his computer painting rather than "partying with the boys."

Best remembered for his films like Jalwa (1987) and TV series Karamchand (1985), he has been pursuing digital art for a while side-by-side with his celluloid outings. Now for the first time, he is having an exhibition of his works at Out Of The Blue, Bandra, till Tuesday.



The proceeds of the show go towards the NGO Deeds that help the hearing impaired. Says the director, "I used computer graphics in Jalwa two decades ago. For Rajkumar (1996), I had created virtual sets. Initially, it was for films, but later I evinced an interest in digital art too. There is no particular subject that I stick to, whatever comes to my mind when I am sitting in front of the computer, takes shape in the painting."

He has been featured in the BBC show Tomorrow's World which helps viewers understand new techno marvels. "They had a special episode which showed the use of computer graphics in Bollywood. I was using blue background and graphics long before others in filmdom," adds Parashar.

During his student days, he had learnt art from a professional and was interested in painting. "But when I enrolled at FTII, painting took a backseat only to resurface later as digital art," says Parashar whose last film was Benares (2006).
