Post Malone, a global music sensation, performed in Guwahati, Assam, on Monday, December 8, and a moving moment from the concert has surfaced online. In a poignant gesture that had the audience cheering, Post paid respect to the late Assamese hero Zubeen Garg, whose death earlier this year devastated the entire area.

Post Malone spoke about Zubeen Garg

While mingling with the audience, Malone stated, "To be in the home of the great legendary Zubeen tonight, ladies and gentlemen." I just hope everyone has a fantastic day and night. My name is Austin Richard Post, and I'm here to play some street music." The shout-out instantly electrified the audience, with supporters exploding in applause and posting videos on social media.

Zubeen Garg's admirers were genuinely moved by the recognition, describing it as a unique and emotional event. Many people expressed thankfulness that an international musician of Malone's calibre honoured Zubeen on such a huge scale, particularly in the singer's home state.

All about Zubeen Garg's death probe

Before the concert, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to welcome Post Malone to the city. "For the first time ever, worldwide music legend and Grammy-nominated singer Post Malone will play in Guwahati, a historic event that solidifies our city's place on the world entertainment map. "Best wishes on this occasion, and I hope everyone enjoys Assam's hospitality," he added.

The singer died on September 19, 2025, while swimming in the sea waters off Singapore during a tour for the North East India Festival. Official records state "drowning" as the cause of death. Initially, the Singapore Police Force (SPF), which conducted the first autopsy under Singapore's Coroners Act, stated that it did not suspect foul play. They emphasised that the probe could take many months and shared a copy of the autopsy and preliminary findings with Indian authorities.

Simultaneously, the Assam Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) initiated a full-scale investigation. More than 60 FIRs were filed across the state, and the SIT raided various homes, including those of the festival organizer, the singer's manager, and other team members.

A second post-mortem examination from Delhi apparently discovered no indications of poison, confirming "drowning" and contradicting prior claims of poisoning.

Meanwhile, several people have been arrested, including the festival organiser, manager, two personal security officers, band members, and a close relative (a police officer). Financial irregularities (transactions worth more than Rs 1.1 crore) involving PSOs have also come under examination.

The state government, represented by Himanta Biswa Sarma in the Assam Assembly, has officially asserted that the killing was "plain and simple murder," rather than an accident. The SIT has apparently completed the majority of the investigation; a chargesheet is scheduled to be issued by December 12, 2025.
