Farhan Akhtar and Ranveer Singh

In August 2023, Farhan Akhtar announced his directorial venture Don 3, with Ranveer Singh taking the baton from Shah Rukh Khan. Almost six months and fans’ mixed response to the casting later, the crime thriller is apparently nearing the production stage. Sources say Akhtar is planning to begin pre-production in March.
It turns out there was lack of clarity regarding the dates initially. Reason: Singh’s commitment to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra. But with Bhansali turning his attention to Love & War, the Don 3 team is only too happy to take their film on floors this year. An insider tells mid-day, “The makers will start pre-production work next month. For now, they have earmarked the first week of August for the shoot commencement. Their first venue will be in Mumbai, after which they will move to Europe.” The source adds that Akhtar intends to give a fresh visual palette to the latest instalment. “Shah Rukh’s Don [2006] and Don 2 [2011] were stylised affairs. The director has a distinct vision for Ranveer’s outing, while retaining the franchise’s slick feel.”
