Sharmila Tagore, the chief of the Censor Board of Film Certification, is upset with the government's directive to give Adult certification to any film which has a smoking scene. She insists that each film should be judged on its own merit and then given a certification, and there should be no blanket rule.

When it comes to certification, the film that most recently caused a furore for its certification was Aamir Khan's Ghajini. Several critics and filmmakers criticized the Board for granting it an U/A certification even though it showed extreme violence. Sharmila admits that it was a mistake to give Ghajini U/A, but insists that does not mean it can be used as a reference point for other violent films. She says it is a mistake which the Board does not intend to repeat.
