Acting in a big banner film doesn't necessarily translate into a big payday, unless you are part of the A-league or born with the proverbial silver spoon. But not for Harshvardhan Kapoor, son of veteran actor Anil Kapoor. The 25-year-old, who makes his debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's historical drama 'Mirzya', let go of what would have officially been his first pay cheque.
Says an insider, "He felt it wasn't right to accept any remuneration for the film out of gratitude to the makers, who invested a huge amount of time and money in his prep. He is grateful that he is part of the experience."
Confirming the news, Harshvardhan told hitlist, the makers ensured his personal trainer was paid and that his horse riding sessions were funded, which didn't come cheap. "That was my fee for the film. It's such an honour to be part of this project that the thought [of taking a fee] didn't cross my mind. The investment Mehra and his production house have made leaves me in debt, which I must now repay [through box office collections]," he said.
And this is how it will stand in future too. "It doesn't matter if I am going through a high or low in my career, I won't asked for a fee for a Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra film." Harshvardhan, however, refused to clarify if he was paid a token amount or will enjoy a share in the returns. When hitlist contacted Mehra, he said, "This is not something to discuss with the media."
