Naseeruddin Shah has called himself a “proud Dimagi Naxal” while criticising the government over student protests at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia. In a video shared on Facebook, the veteran actor questioned the administration’s handling of the demonstrations and challenged labels such as “anti-national” and “tukde-tukde gang”. He alleged that if anyone was seeking to divide the country, it was the government. The protests reportedly centre on students’ demand for the restoration of the university’s elected students’ union, dissolved in 2006.
