Another round of celebrations
After Rhea Kapoor and Karan Boolani’s wedding celebrations earlier this week, the Kapoors got together again for the godh bharai of Antara Motiwalla Marwah. She is Sonam and Rhea Kapoor’s cousin Mohit Marwah’s wife. Antara and Mohit, who wed in 2018, are expecting their first child. The ceremony was conducted at Tina Ambani’s Cuffe Parade home. Antara’s mother Bhavna Motiwalla is Ambani’s sister. In attendance were Anil and Sunita Kapoor, Sonam K Ahuja, Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi, Maheep and Shanaya Kapoor, and Arjun Kapoor with sister Anshula. Sonam shared several pictures from the ceremony and captioned it, “The khandaan.”

Return of the studio audience
The new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati will have new additions to the format, including the reinstatement of the studio audience. Last year, the Amitabh Bachchan-hosted show underwent several changes to adapt to the social distancing norms of shooting amid the pandemic. For the first time in 20 years, the show did not have a live audience due to which the lifeline ‘audience poll’ was replaced by ‘video-a-friend’. The upcoming 13th season will see a return of the lifeline along with 50:50, Ask the Expert and Flip the Question. Big B, who began shooting for the quiz show last week, is “thrilled” that the studio audience is back. “It was probably for the first time that it wasn’t a part of KBC and we saw a major change in the lifelines as well. I, for one, truly missed them and their energy; it’s infectious. The audience and the contestants inspire me in every way,” says the veteran superstar.

Getting away
Composer-lyricist duo Sachet Tandon and Parampara Thakur, who tied the knot last November, are on a break from work. Best known for the Bekhayali song in Kabir Singh (2019), they have been busy with their commitments but Tandon’s birthday (August 17) provided the opportunity to head to the hills. “We’ve been going through hectic schedules. As it was my first birthday after marriage, we wanted to make it special and celebrate in a unique way,” says Tandon. He also indulged in a live Instagram session to thank fans for standing by their side in their “highs and lows.”
Pre-production in progress
A day after she claimed her Instagram account had been hacked, Kangana Ranaut was back on the photo-sharing app. She posted pictures from her Pali Hill office and informed that she had begun work on her production, Tiku Weds Sheru, in which she shares screen space with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The dark comedy, helmed by Sai Kabir, goes on floors in November.
Surekha Sikri’s swansong
Surekha Sikri’s last film, Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai?, will drop digitally. On Thursday, the makers unveiled the motion poster of the comedy. The film, starring Surbhi Jyoti and Jassie Gill, unfolds in a small town in Uttar Pradesh. Sikri, who succumbed to a cardiac arrest on July 16, will be seen in a pivotal role in Ssaurabh Tyagi’s directorial venture. Vijay Raaz is also part of the cast.

Unleashing the action mode
Barely a week after he wrapped up the shoot of Shakun Batra’s untitled film alongside Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi has dived into the shoot of Yudhra. Ravi Udyawar’s directorial venture is being touted as a romantic thriller.Chaturvedi will be unleashing his action side in the film co-starring South actor Malavika Mohanan, who featured in Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds (2017). The film is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Akhtar has also penned the story and dialogues. As prep, Chaturvedi had been hitting the gym to bulk up for the role.
Relief for Bhansali
The Bombay High Court has granted an interim stay on criminal defamation proceedings against Gangubai Kathiawadi producer-director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt, who plays the titular role. The court also refused to stay the release of the film. Babuji Shah, who claims to be the adopted son of Kathiawadi, had filed a complaint that the film was inspired by the book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, and some portions of it were ‘defamatory’ and ‘tarnished’ Kathiawadi’s reputation. The next date of hearing is September 7.
Bees saal baad
It’s 20 years since Nushratt Bharuccha first faced the camera. Not many know that she began with television and her first outing was Manish Goswami’s Kittie Party starring Poonam Dhillon, Deepshikha Nagpal and Shveta Salve. The producer recalls that she was still in her teens and on the first day of the shoot, she reached late as she lost her way at Film City and was a “bundle of nerves.” Bharuccha played Dhillon’s son’s girlfriend Tanya in the show, written by Shobhaa De. Goswami adds that she was determined to make her mark as an actor, and her father Tanvir used to accompany her on the set.
