Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji has made a strong box-office debut despite mixed reviews, collecting Rs 33.9 crore nett over its opening weekend, making it the biggest opener in Marathi cinema

Reigning in Maharashtra 

Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama Raja Shivaji has opened to a strong box-office response despite mixed reviews. The film based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has reportedly earned over Rs 33.90 crore nett in its opening weekend, becoming Marathi cinema’s biggest opener. On Sunday alone, the film saw 36 per cent growth, collecting Rs 12 crore across Hindi and Marathi versions. Trade reports indicate a total gross of Rs 40.34 crore.
