Jaya Bachchan has had many sharp exchanges with the paparazzi in the past. Over the years, several videos of her rebuking photographers have gone viral. She recently found herself in hot water after commenting on the paps’ mannerisms and clothing. However, she believes her equation with the paparazzi won’t affect grandson Agastya Nanda’s career. She even recalled how Amitabh Bachchan was banned for 15 years.

Jaya Bachchan on Agastya Nanda’s career

In a recent interview with Variety India, Jaya Bachchan debunked the theory that her equation with the paparazzi could impact his fledgling career. “No power on earth can change my grandson’s destiny. If Agastya is destined to be a star, nothing can change it. Agastya will have his own equation with the press. It has nothing to do with me,” she said.

She also recalled the phase when Amitabh Bachchan was banned by the press. “At the height of his stardom, Amitji was banned by the press for almost 15 years. How did that impact his career?” she asked.

Talking about Agastya, he is the son of Amitabh’s daughter Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda. He made his debut with Netflix’s The Archies alongside Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter. He was next seen in Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis.

When Jaya Bachchan called Agastya a determined child

In an earlier interview, the veteran actress shed light on how the newcomer is forging his own niche. “Luckily, Agastya is a fast learner. Neither of his parents are actors, so he’s leaning on his grandparents and his Maamu (uncle) for guidance. You know me, I wouldn’t praise anyone, least of all my own children or grandchildren. But Agastya is special. That child is determined to forge his own path, just like I once did. Like me, he won’t follow the herd,” Jaya said.

At a recent summit, Jaya revealed that her relationship with the paparazzi is “zero.” Criticising them, she said, “But yeh jo bahar gande, tight pant pehenke, haath mein mobile leke (they wear cheap, tight pants and have a mobile in their hand), they think just because they have a mobile, they can take your picture and say what they want. And the kind of comments they pass! What kind of people are these people?”
