Rono Mukherjee was the eldest of the Mukherjee brothers who, for decades, organized the popular North Bombay Durga Puja celebrations. He was often seen at the pandal celebrating the festival with his family.

On Wednesday, following his demise, family and friends gathered to pay their last respects. Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who shares a close bond with the Mukherjee family, was also spotted at the last rites. Gowariker is married to Sunita Gowariker, daughter of Deb Mukherjee, making Ayan his brother-in-law.

About Ayan Mukerji's father

This comes just two months after the passing of Deb Mukherjee, Ayan Mukerji’s father, who died on March 14 this year.

Deb Mukherjee had acted in several films during the 1960s and 1970s, beginning his career with movies like Lal Patthar (1971), Adhikar (1971), and Ek Bar Mooskura Do (1972). In the 1990s, he appeared in films like King Uncle (1993), and his last theatrical appearance was in Kaminey (2009).

Rono Mukherjee was also instrumental in organizing the iconic North Bombay Sarvajanik Durga Puja pandal—one of Mumbai’s largest Durga Puja celebrations, frequented by several Bollywood celebrities every year.
