Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Faraar
After making his mark with short films showcased at international festivals, filmmaker Kushagra Sharma is stepping into feature filmmaking with Faraar. The project marks his Hindi feature debut and brings together an eclectic cast, led by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, known for his ability to inhabit unconventional roles with striking depth.
The film brings Siddiqui in the role of a physics professor, continuing his long-standing screen reputation for portraying unique characters across varied subjects. The movie also features Hollywood actor Ilia Volok, of Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol (2011) fame. Rest of the ensemble cast includes Nimisha Sajjan, Trisha, Parth Bhalerao, Vikram Kochhar, and Gavie Chahal.

Reflecting on his collaboration with Siddiqui, Sharma told mid-day, “It’s a real honour to work with an actor like Nawazuddin, who has consistently proven his range with powerful performances in recent years. When I started working on this film, he was my first choice for the lead role. I feel fortunate that he said yes to the project. Both my producer Shrishti and I have worked hard to bring together a cast that supports the film’s emotional and intellectual tone.”
mid-day accessed Siddiqui’s look from the film. Sporting spectacles and carrying a “Law of Physics” book in his hand, the actor paints an intriguing portrait. The first look image shows Siddiqui sitting on a couch with a blackboard filled with Physics formulae forming the background.
Sharma also highlighted his vision to bring together actors from different parts of the world. The director said he wanted Faraar to have a “global voice”. “We aimed to bring performers who could organically contribute to the world of Faraar. Having so many accomplished actors say yes to the script has been an encouraging start to this journey. Cinema is a collaborative art that allows cultures and emotions to converge. With The Great Escape: Faraar, my goal was to create a story that reflects Indian emotions but is told with a global voice. I wanted to explore a genre that Indian cinema hasn’t deeply ventured into a heist thriller that combines intellect, heart, and scale.” the filmmaker said.
