Comic duo Funcho team up with garba queen Falguni for Navratri event; proceeds to be donated to Virar orphanage

Falguni Pathak

It’s that time of the year again when dandiya queen Falguni Pathak will hit the stage and make revellers dance to her songs. This time around though, the popular singer has company from an unlikely quarter. Comedy content creators Funcho, comprising Dhruv Shah and Shyam Sharma, are joining Pathak at the three-day event that kicked off yesterday at the Late Shri Pramod Mahajan Sports Complex in Borivali.

Interestingly, the artistes have teamed up to take Navratri celebration beyond song-and-dance, and make a difference — the proceeds from the event will be donated to Good Shepherd Convent Orphanage in Virar. It will be used to sponsor the daily needs and necessities of 75 children.

The Mumbai-based duo are immensely popular with the younger generation, courtesy their reels and videos. In the past, they have collaborated with Kartik Aaryan, Tiger Shroff, and Mumbai Indians, among others. In the run-up to the event, Sharma and Shah spearheaded contests and sold 250 tickets in colleges — including Mithibai in Vile Parle, KC College in Churchgate and Nagindas Khandwala College in Malad — thus drawing the attention of the Gen-Z crowd. Sharma says he is proud to throw his weight behind a good cause. “We are avid enthusiasts of garba, and look up to Falguni Pathak as a role model. This is a dream come true for us to contribute to a benevolent cause on this auspicious occasion,” he shares.

With over 15,000 people expected to attend the revelry over three days, Shah is confident of raising a significant amount for the cause. He elaborates, “We are doing a charity drive to mobilise youth interactions around humanity and equal rights. We feel content creation has come of age today, and it’s amazing that we can employ our platforms in a more responsible manner to add intrinsic value to society.”
