In late October, mid-day reported that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) questioned Mamta Child Factory’s originality and asked the makers to resubmit the film to the Examining Committee (Calling the CBFC’s bluff, Oct 30). While director Mohsin Khan had resubmitted his movie and was assured of another screening with the CBFC, there was no progress on the matter. Now, tired of the long wait, the film’s team has decided to skip theatres and stream it directly on Ultra Play.

The trouble began right after Khan applied for the certificate process in June. While the surrogacy drama was first screened for the CBFC on July 29, no decision followed. According to the director, the Assistant Regional Officer verbally informed them that the film’s theme of surrogacy was a problem (Pregnant pause on film’s future, Sep 18). Things took a hit when the CBFC deemed it a dubbed version of Khan’s last Marathi offering, Delivery Boy (2024), and demanded that it be resubmitted for certification.

An insider says, “Even after we resubmitted Mamta Child Factory, we received neither a date for the screening nor the certificate. We’ve given up hopes for a theatrical release. Ultra, which bought the film, is premièring it on its OTT platform on December 10.”
